What the categories mean

| Cat A | Scrap only. The whole vehicle must be crushed, including parts. | No, ever |
| Cat B | Body shell must be crushed, but some parts can be salvaged and reused. | No (as a whole vehicle) |
| Cat S | Structural damage that has been, or can be, professionally repaired. | Yes, if repaired and re-registered |
| Cat N | Non-structural damage (for example electrical or cosmetic), repairable. | Yes, if repaired |
Before you buy a written-off motorhome
- See evidence of who repaired it and to what standard.
- Get an independent inspection, especially for Cat S structural repairs.
- Confirm your insurer will cover it and at what premium.
- Expect to pay noticeably less than a clean equivalent, and to sell it for less too.
Never a Cat A or B
Cat A and Cat B vehicles must not return to the road as a whole. If a motorhome is advertised as roadworthy but shows Cat A or B on a history check, walk away and report it.
