The write-off categories

CategoryWhat it meansBack on the road?
Cat AScrap only. The whole vehicle must be crushed, including parts. No, ever
Cat BBody shell must be crushed, but some parts can be salvaged and reused. No (as a whole vehicle)
Cat SStructural damage that has been, or can be, professionally repaired.Yes, if repaired and re-registered
Cat NNon-structural damage (for example electrical or cosmetic), repairable.Yes, if repaired

A Cat S or Cat N motorhome can legally be repaired and sold, but its history must be declared and its value is reduced. A Cat A or Cat B vehicle being sold as roadworthy is a serious warning sign.

Repaired does not mean clean

A write-off marker stays on the record permanently. Even a professionally repaired Cat S motorhome is worth less and harder to insure and resell. Always factor this into the price.
