How to read this page

Everything below is an individual owner report or a manufacturer statement, each traced to a source fetched on 15 September 2026. They are not fault rates: nobody publishes reliable fault statistics for Elddis conversions, and DVSA's anonymised MOT data records the make and model from the DVSA vehicle dataset with no separate converter field, so we do not publish an MOT pass rate either. The MOT record belongs to the registered vehicle, base chassis and all: see do motorhomes need an MOT. The £4.99 CaravanCheck report covers what the registers hold on a UK-registered motorhome (stolen, finance, write-off, mileage, plates, keepers); it cannot see damp, which is why this page exists alongside it.

What Elddis owners report, brand-wide

Damp despite SoLiD construction

Elddis's SoLiD system bonds the body with a Henkel adhesive instead of screws. Practical Motorhome (16 February 2022) says this "significantly reduces (but doesn't completely eradicate) the possibility of leaks". Owners are blunter. In a thread titled "Elddis SoLiD Construction Damp Issues" (MotorhomeFun, 10 June 2019) one member wrote that "Despite Elddis claims for their SOLID construction they still frame the walls with untreated softwood." In December 2025 another said "Unfortunately water ingress is a fact of life with Elddiss vans", and a third offered the acronym "Soggy Or Lets In Damp". A 2015 Autoquest 155 owner reported readings "of upto 90%+" on "All 3 sides of the van" at four years old (10 June 2019) and later that the van "will have had all the walls (to lower heights) and some floor renewed in 9 years" (14 July 2023). A Trustpilot reviewer with a two-year-old 115 (22 July 2026) reported "65% nearside and 85% offside" under the side benches.

Sealant that degrades within a few years

An Accordo 105 owner (4 July 2023) noticed "some of the sealant is cracking and peeling inviting the dreaded water ingress"; the dealer quoted £500 for a reseal and said the warranty would not pay for preventative work. A four-year-old Encore 255 owner (24 September 2023) found "Most of the sealant that had clearly been badly applied at manufacture was degrading", and another 2019 Encore 255 had "Very high damp reading at the bottom of the side panel behind driver's door". A December 2015 Majestic 125 owner (21 June 2022) found the roof-to-side plastic angle lifting 20 mm because "The adhesive/sealant was not attached to the roof side"; a friend's April 2016 van had the same fault.

Garage doors and the overcab

A 2019 Autoquest 194 had "damp was found in both garage doors" at its check (4 May 2020); an owner of a van bought in November 2019 found rain "being blown past the top seal on the rear 'garage'". A 2018 Accordo 105 owner (23 December 2025) had water "all around the front of the cab, both passenger and driver side" dripping down the internal upholstery, twice in a year; a reply noted the sun-visor screws corroding, suggesting moisture in the roof. A 2016 Autoquest 180 had damp under the overcab window at its first check, fixed under warranty (7 October 2017).

Warranty: damage first, then a claim

Several owners describe the ten-year water-ingress warranty as covering damage rather than prevention. One was told a claim was refused "as damp meter readings were low and no damage had been suffered 'as yet'" (3 March 2020). Another: "They won't do a preventative reseal as the manufacturer won't pay them for that. You will have to wait untill it leaks." (4 July 2023). A caravan owner in the SoLiD thread was told the ten-year body warranty "did not cover the front or rear panels". We could not open an Elddis warranty terms page to check the wording (below).

Snagging and build quality on new vans

A 2015 Autoquest 155 owner: "within 2 weeks had 14 faults and many more since" (8 November 2020). A 2020 Compass Avantgarde 196: "laughably poor" (9 August 2022). A new Accordo 120 came with the wrong cupboard catch, a loose handle, a broken blind string and a shower-curtain problem (24 October 2020). Other owners in the same threads listed a failed reversing camera, a leaking tap, blisters on the worktop, hairline cracks in the GRP, a cracked shower tray and basin, and cupboard hinges pulling away. A 2013 Aspire owner summed up: "Major damp repairs EVERY year", with a new skylight and half the roof replaced. Not every report is negative: several 2016 to 2017 Autoquest 180 owners in a 2017 thread reported no damp at all, and Elddis's Trustpilot score on the day was 4.3 from 142 reviews.

Floor delamination and tank placement

A Majestic 120 owner mentioned "a floor delamination issue in the 120" (24 October 2020); a Majestic 125 had "The floor by the kitchen which was replaced at four years" (22 June 2022) and another Marquis-badged Elddis had part of its floor replaced under warranty at three years. On the 125 the fresh-water tank sits under the dinette seat and one owner found sloshing water "splashed into seat enclosure" (9 August 2022).

By range

Autoquest (115, 155, 175, 180, 194, 300)

The 155 (2015) is the most-documented: 90% readings on three sides at four years, walls and floor renewed, 14 faults in two weeks, then a leaking tap, camera and cracked GRP from another 155 owner. The 180 (2016): overcab window damp at the first check and a small floor-to-rear-wall area at the second, both under warranty, alongside several dry ones. The 194 (2019): both garage doors damp. The 175: a cracked Thule step bracket on a 2013 and water ingress in three areas on a 2018. The 115: the 65% and 85% under-bench readings on a two-year-old van and a fridge that shut off on gas (2026). The 300 (2005, pre-SoLiD): a constantly wet cupboard floor beside the fridge. Practical Motorhome's 2022 guide to the 2018-on Autoquest and Avantgarde CV says to check around windows and rooflights and "around after-fit accessories that required holes to be drilled". DVSA recalls name the 2017 and 2018 Autoquest (bike rack fixings) and 2021 to 2022 Autoquest and Avantgarde CV80 (solar panel bond).

Accordo (105, 120)

The 105: cracking sealant (2023), and the 2018 van with water round the cab front (2025). The 120: new-van defects (2020). An Accordo-based Marquis Majestic bought November 2019 had the garage top-seal leak refused as a claim. Practical Motorhome's 2022 Accordo guide notes a wheel-arch shower tray "fitted inappropriately to some 140s/120s" and the generous 3,300 kg payload from the bonded build. DVSA RSPV/2023/010 covers 2017 and 2018 Accordo bike-rack fixings.

Encore (254, 255, 275, 285)

The 2019 Encore 255 sealant and damp reports are above; a 2022 Encore 285 was "currently in getting warranty fixes" (9 August 2022). Practical Motorhome's 2020 Encore guide says these vans "are not known for any regularly recurring faults" but that the ten-year water-ingress warranty "will only apply if the coachwork has been inspected annually by an approved engineer" and the heating antifreeze must be changed to schedule. DVSA RSPV/2021/003 (11 December 2020) recalled 446 Encore 254, 255, 275 and 285 vans built 2015 to 2017 for bike-rack mounting rails that could detach.

Majestic and Marquis dealer specials (120, 125, 155, 195)

Marquis sells Elddis-built Majestic models. Reports: the 2015 and 2016 Majestic 125 roof-trim adhesive, a leaking Heki from the wrong sealant, and a kitchen floor replaced at four years (2022); the 120 floor delamination (2020); a 2019 125 with a faulty reversing camera and poor trim fit; and a Majestic 195 with base-vehicle electrical faults (out of scope here).

Aspire, Compass Avantgarde and CV campervans

The 2013 Aspire annual damp repairs and the 2020 Avantgarde 196 build-quality complaint are above. A CV20 campervan owner on Trustpilot (28 July 2026) noticed marks round the windows "as though excess solvent used during installation had not been properly removed". Buccaneer and Xplore appear only as caravan brands in the pages we opened, so nothing is claimed about them as motorhomes.

Elddis recalls on the DVSA register

Elddis is not a make in its own right on the DVSA service. Its recalls are filed under HYMER GMBH & CO KG (2022 and 2023), ERWIN HYMER GROUP UK LTD (2024, caravans only) and THE EXPLORER GROUP (2005), plus one 2002 Hi-Life under Toyota. From the file downloaded on 15 September 2026, the motorhome campaigns are:

The October 2024 chassis-torque campaign (R/2024/411) is caravans only. No Elddis recall concerns SoLiD construction, damp or water ingress. Recall status is not part of our £4.99 report; check it free on the DVSA service.

What Elddis says: warranty and servicing

We could not find warranty terms on elddis.co.uk on 15 September 2026: the warranty-information page is a contact form asking owners to quote the 17-digit VIN and email customer.care@erwinhymergroup.co.uk, and the older warranty URL returns a 404. A dealer's summary (Glossop Caravans) describes a three-year manufacturer's warranty (two years on Fiat-based vehicles) and a "Ten Year Water Ingress and Body Integrity Warranty" for 2012 model year onward, conditional on an annual service and damp check by an approved Erwin Hymer Group UK retailer or service centre. Treat that as secondary until Elddis publishes its own wording. Practical Motorhome's Encore guide confirms the ten-year cover depends on annual inspection by an approved engineer.

MOT pass rates: why this page does not give one

Other sites quote pass rates for converter brands. We checked the DVSA anonymised MOT open data documentation on 15 September 2026: the make and model fields are taken from the DVSA vehicle dataset, there is no converter field and no make lookup table, and the guide does not say whether a coachbuilt motorhome appears under the converter or the base vehicle. Until that is settled, any Elddis pass rate is a guess, so we leave it out. What you can check for a specific vehicle is its own MOT history and mileage record, free, by registration: see how to check a motorhome MOT history and which MOT class a motorhome sits in.

Before you buy an Elddis: checklist

  1. Meter the bottom 150 mm of every side wall from inside, especially behind the driver's door, under the side benches and at the rear corners; then the floor edges and the kitchen floor.
  2. Look closely at every external sealant line, the roof-to-side trims and the plastic angle at the roof edge; lift gently to see whether the adhesive is bonded to both faces.
  3. Check both garage doors and their top seals, the overcab window and the cab-to-body join at the front.
  4. Ask for every annual damp report: the ten-year water-ingress cover depends on them, and owners report claims refused until damage has appeared, so a low reading trend is worth more than a single pass.
  5. Ask whether any preventative reseal has been done and whether the dealer or the owner paid.
  6. On a 2015 to 2018 Encore, Autoquest or Accordo, check the bike-rack recall has been done before loading a rack; on a 2021 to 2022 Autoquest or CV80, the solar panel bond.
  7. Fill the fresh tank on a Majestic 125 and drive round the block before checking the dinette seat box for water.
  8. Run the £4.99 history check on the registration before a deposit.

Check the vehicle's own record

Whatever the brand, the paperwork side is the same: the vehicle is UK-registered, so a motorhome history check (£4.99) shows stolen, finance, write-off, mileage, plate and keeper records from Experian AutoCheck, DVLA and DVSA. It does not inspect the habitation body, and touring caravans are not covered (they have no registration). More on what the check shows and does not in the motorhome and caravan FAQ.
